Benzalkonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium cationic detergent. It has been used for decades as an antiseptic and preservative in personal care, health care, household, pharmaceutical, and industrial products.
It is used in hand santisers across the world and is deemed safe for human use. It is commonly found even in the most sensitive of consumer applications such as antiseptic eyewashes, hand and face washes, mouthwashes whilst also the most demanding such as in the food industry for sanitisation purposes.
